Equipment

All photos included on this website were taken by us (unless otherwise stated).

The photos taken from 1999 to 2004 were taken with a Pentax ESPIO 160 (film) and have either been scanned or were transferred to digital format at the time of processing.

In 2005 we bought an Olympus C-60 Zoom (digital).

In 2006 we bought two Canon SLRs (digital), a 20D which I used with a 100-400mm lens and a 30D with a 17-85mm lens.

In December 2009 we part exchanged the 20D for a new 50D which we used with the 100-400mm lens and bought a new 70-300mm lens for Alan to use with the 30D.

In April 2011 we bought an additional SLR, a Canon 7D. The 17-85mm lens was attached to the 30D.

In early 2012 we moved the 100-400mm lens to the 7D and the 17-85mm lens to the 50D. We stopped using the 30D.

In 2013 we bought a Fujifilm, Finepix XP for snap shots (it is water, shock, dust & freeze proof).

In 2014 we bought a Canon 15-85mm lens to replace the faulty 17-85mm lens and put it on the 50D.

In February 2015 we bought a GoPro Hero4 Silver.

In August 2015 we bought a Canon EOS 7D Mark II, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM and Canon Extender EF 1.4x III.

In October 2015 we traded in the 30D & 50D and bought another Canon EOS 7D Mark II to use with the 100-400mm old lens. The 15-85mm lens was moved onto the 7D Mark I.

In December 2015 we traded in the old 100-400mm lens for a second Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM and paired it up with the new 7D Mark II bought in October.

In August 2017 we bought a Canon EOS 77D and moved the 15-85mm lens from the 7D Mark I on to it. Why are we dumbing down? Because it is a much lighter camera with lots of fun functions!

Tripod

It's hard to use a tripod for most of our wildlife photography as more often than not there simply isn't time to set the tripod up! It has travelled all over the world with us but rarely gets used... but when we do have the time it is well worth lugging it around.

We are currently travelling with:

  • Manfrotto 190XPROB tripod with Manfrotto MHXPRO-2W head
  • Manfrotto 679B monopod with Manfrotto 234RC head

Video Cameras

We are now using our DSLRs to record video.

Videos recorded between:

2001 and 2005 = Panasonic NV-DS15B (20x Optical Zoom and 400x Digital Zoom) SD

2015 = we added a GoPro Hero4 Silver to our backpack (rarely gets out of it though!)
