West Canada Road Trip 2011

Trip Report - Travel Blog

Bears and Awesome Scenery

Pika

Back in 1999, on our first visit to Canada, we did a 7 day road trip from Vancouver to Calgary, taking in some of the Rocky Mountain highlights, including our first ever wild bear sighting on the Bow Valley Parkway. In 2011 we took our time to repeat some of the British Columbia highlights and added some new ones.

Our adventure started in Whistler where we went on a bear viewing tour on the Whistler ski slopes. We spent a couple of days exploring the area via the cable car network, hiking and admiring the views.

We moved onto the town of Blue River for another bear viewing tour and spent time exploring Wells Gray Provincial Park.

Next moving onto Jasper which we used as a base for our exploration of Mount Edith Cavell, Angel Glacier, Maligne Canyon Loop, Medicine Lake and Icefields Parkway.

Back on the road towards Banff we stopped at Mistaya Lake, Bow Summit, Peyto Lake and the Bow Valley Parkway. From Banff we explored Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Yoho National Park, Emerald Lake and a thorough exploration of the Bow Valley Parkway.

Finally, we made our way back to Vancouver, crossing Kootenay Lake by ferry stopping the night at Nelson and Osoyoos on the way.
